Transmission Development Speaker Panel Announced, June 23

We are excited to update everyone on the panel planned for June 23rd.

Please join the Chicago Clean Energy Alliance and our Presenting Sponsor, Mayer Brown, for the hosted panel discussion that will address the hot topic that is on everyone’s mind: transmission development. The lack of available transmission in areas of high wind and solar resources affects developers nationwide.  With changing FERC rulings on the privatization of transmission development, is transmission poised to become the next big boom? A reception and open networking will follow the conclusion of the panel.
The CCEA & Mayer Brown have assembled the following panel of energy experts:

Speaker Bios:

 

Dan Foley, CEO, ACCIONA

Dan Foley joined ACCIONA Energy North America in 2007 and was named CEO in March 2011. Dan has been tasked to lead the business across wind and solar and explore other renewable technologies across the continent.

Dan brings 20 years of industry experience to ACCIONA Energy North America. Preceding his role as CEO, Dan brought tremendous value to the company in his role as chief development officer, where he led the company’s wind and solar development efforts throughout Canada and the U.S. Prior to joining ACCIONA, he held the director, power marketing position with Invenergy LLC, a developer, owner and operator of large-scale electricity generation assets, where he was instrumental in executing power purchase agreement negotiations to support the development of electric generation projects. He also gained extensive experience in the energy sector as a senior manager for Deliotte and Touche, where he provided risk management consulting services to utilities, operating companies and other energy market participants specializing in trading practices, policies, procedures and controls.

Dan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Engineering degree from the State University of New York- Buffalo and a Master of Business degree from the University of Chicago.

 

Hans Detweiler, Director of Development for Clean Line Energy based in Houston

Hans Detweiler has broad experience in state and regional policy development in renewable energy across the country with a strong focus on the upper Midwest. Prior to joining Clean Line, Detweiler was Director of State Policy for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), supervising all of AWEA’s direct state legislative campaigns and state regulatory efforts and serving as the primary liaison to AWEA’s regional partners. Previously, Hans was Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, where he administered the state’s renewable power, renewable fuels, and energy efficiency programs, and where he provided policy guidance to the Governor’s office. Before joining DCEO, Hans was a Policy Advocate at the Environmental Law & Policy Center, focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency advocacy. Detweiler has also worked in a variety of policy and advocacy roles with organized labor and other non-profits. Hans holds a B.A. in Political Science from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa.

 

John Flynn, VP, Strategic Planning & Business Development, ATC

John Flynn joined American Transmission Co. in 2010 as its first vice president of business development. He is responsible for strategic planning and leading ATC’s efforts to expand transmission development opportunities outside of its current service territory.

Prior to joining ATC, Flynn served in several key transmission leadership roles at American Electric Power in Columbus, Ohio, including managing director of Strategic Planning, Finance & Business Development for AEP Transmission, as well as president of Pioneer Transmission (a joint venture between AEP and Duke Energy), and executive vice president of Electric Transmission America (a joint venture between AEP and MidAmerican Holdings).

Flynn’s 20-year career in the energy industry also includes financial, auditing, regulatory and policy responsibilities with Northeast Utilities, Progress Energy and Arthur Andersen.

Flynn graduated from Fairfield University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

 

Steven T. Naumann, Vice President of Wholesale Market Development for Exelon Corporation

Steven T. Naumann is Vice President – Wholesale Market Development at Exelon Corporation. In addition to his responsibilities for development of markets nationwide, he is one of a team of Exelon executives involved in development of RTO policy, including integration of ComEd into PJM. Mr. Naumann joined Commonwealth Edison Co. following service as an officer in the United States Air Force. During his over 35 years at Exelon and Commonwealth Edison, Mr. Naumann has held a number of engineering, managerial and executive positions responsible for the planning, operation, and security of the electric delivery system. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Naumann was Vice President – Transmission Services for ComEd. He has participated on a number of committees, working groups and task forces of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Mid-America Interconnected Network Regional Reliability Council (MAIN), including serving as Vice Chairman of MAIN from 2004-2005.

Mr. Naumann has served on NERC Member Representatives Committee as a representative of the Investor Owned Utilities and later served as Vice Chairman and Chairman. He has testified before Congress, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Illinois Commerce Commission and the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. Mr. Naumann received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electric Power Engineering in 1971 and a Master of Engineering degree in Electric Power Engineering in 1972, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He later received a J.D. degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1988. Mr. Naumann is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and is licensed to practice law in Illinois.

Paul J. Astolf, Partner, Mayer Brown

Paul Astolfi handles a variety of complex matters including project development and finance, asset backed finance, joint ventures, and corporate governance.  Mr. Astolfi also has considerable experience counseling clients in restructuring their financing arrangements.  He represents major international energy companies, IPPs, financial institutions, private equity funds, manufacturing concerns, and other publicly and privately held businesses.
